How our
Diamonds are Sourced
At Commins And Co Jewellers, we work closely with nine international diamond dealers from across the world. They have access to over 100 million certified diamonds – certified by the GIA, HRD Antwerp or IGI Antwerp. This ensures the best quality, choice, value and ethical sourcing for our customers.
We work closely with the manufacturers of lab grown diamonds in the US. We have access to over 250,000 certified lab grown diamonds.
Diamond Information
Determining the quality of a diamond involves what jewellers refer to as the “Four C’s”; Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat.
We believe there are 8 things to be aware of when considering buying a diamond.
Cut
The cut of the diamond is different to the shape. The cut relates to how the facets interact with light. In simple terms, it relates to the sparkle of your diamond. This information is graded on a diamond certificate. It is graded from 'excellent'; 'very good'; 'good'; 'fair' ;'poor'. We recommend a cut grade of 'excellent' or 'very good' to ensure you get maximum sparkle in your diamond.
Carat
This is the weight of the diamond. There is a strong correlation between the carat weight and the diamond size but they are not the same. Generally the bigger the carat, the bigger the diamond.
Clarity
The clarity of a diamond relates to the number and size of the small blemishes or inclusions inside the diamond. Most people have a preference to have no marks visible to the naked eye. The clarity grade of a diamond can be found on the diamond certificate. Great value can be found with diamonds who have inclusions but are not visible to the naked eye due to their position and colour.
Certificate
A certificate is a third parties assessment on the quality and spec of a diamond. It includes the carat weight, colour, clarity, cut, measurement, fluorescence. The most reputable bodies are the GIA, HRD Antwerp and IGI Antwerp. These are the only certificate bodies we would recommend.
Fluorescence
The fluorescence grade of a diamond can be identified on a diamond certificate. If a diamond has fluorescence it can make the diamond look milky or cloudy in day light (or UV light). The inclusion of fluorescence in a diamond can drastically reduce its cost. We advise 'nil' or 'slight' on the fluorescence grade to ensure maximum sparkle for your diamond.
Conflict Free
All our diamonds are certified by the most reputable bodies in the world. Our network of diamond dealers comply with the Kimberly Process and only source conflict free diamonds. We have a very strict 'no blood diamond policy' and do not sell pre-owned, uncertified or antique jewellery for this reason.
Conscience
Many people like the idea of a diamond but have reservations about the industry. A recent breakthrough in technology has facilitated the market for lab grown diamonds. These are identical to 'earth grown diamonds' in terms of durability, colour, certificate etc. Almost all rings in our Dublin jewellers are available with lab grown diamonds.
Confidence
It is important to have confidence in your jeweller. Our award winning jewellers is one of a very small number of Irish jewellers who make the majority of our rings in house. Our designer, goldsmith and diamond setter make over 85% of our engagement rings in our workshop in Dublin City centre. Our core belief is 'quality i everything we do' and focus on our customer.
Packaged With Love
When you purchase an engagement ring from Commins And Co Jewellers, your ring will be presented in a luxurious piano black ring box with a black leather inside. This ring box is presented in a larger black box with a silver coloured ribbon. The inside of the box is padded with light grey silk for a luxury look and feel.
Sizing
Knowing the correct finger size for you or your partner can be challenging. We offer complimentary ring sizing if you order a ring in the incorrect finger size. We also facilitate free ring resizing within the first 30 days of your purchase to ensure your ring is the perfect fit. We offer a zero profit goldsmith service for our customers. Any future amendments or alterations to your ring can be done by our in house goldsmith at our cost price.
Complimentary Engraving
We offer complimentary engraving on engagement rings, eternity rings or wedding rings. We can engrave whatever text you want on the inside of your ring: your name; your partners name; a personal message; a date or even google coordinates of where you proposed – the options are almost endless.
